What are our guiding principles?

Home-Start NEA aims to empower families through the personal relationship which they develop with the volunteer.

Home-Start believes that children need a happy and secure childhood and that parents play the key role in giving their children a good start in life and helping them achieve their full potential.

Home-Start NEA will accept a referral from any source as long as:

Once a family has been referred and a referral form has been received the Co-ordinator will arrange to visit the family to discuss their needs and answer any questions.

The Co-ordinator will endeavour to match the family as quickly as possible, however, occasionally a family may need to wait for a suitable volunteer to become available.

Once a volunteer is introduced to the family the Referrer will be notified of this. A family choose whether or not to accept Home-Start support and also when the match should end.

Home-Start NEA aims to ensure that confidentiality is not breached except where there is a concern about the safety or welfare of a child.

Who is Home-Start NEA?

Home-Start North East Aberdeenshire is part of a national organisation that has been operating in Scotland since 1973.

Training information and guidance on all aspects of the work is supplied by Home-Start UK, who employ Family Services Specialist to provide support for all the schemes in the North of Scotland.

The local scheme was founded in Fraserburgh in 1995 and extended its service into Peterhead in January 1999. It is managed by a Board of Trustees made up of representatives from local voluntary and statutory agencies and interested members of the local community.

The Board is responsible for the employment and management of the Co-ordinator and Admin assistant and supporting the work of Home-Start NEA.
